An aspirant Mountain Guide is a fully-fledged mountain professional, registered in a professional association. After passing a very rigorous selection process, they complete a training course lasting approximately two years before obtaining their qualification.
Before becoming an internationally recognized UIAGM Mountain Guide, the aspiring guide must complete a two-year period of training, during which they further refine their practical and theoretical skills.
During this period, aspiring guides may encounter certain limitations, established on a regional basis, relating to the difficulty of ascents or the maximum altitude that can be reached. However, they can still work independently, organizing excursions and activities under their own responsibility. With rare exceptions, the activity is carried out mainly in Italy and not abroad.
At the end of the two-year training period, the candidate finally obtains the title of Mountain Guide, which is complete and internationally recognized.
Trips only take place in favorable weather and snow conditions. For information on refunds, please refer to the terms and conditions. The guide is responsible for assessing conditions and communicating any cancellations.
Mountaineering activities can be risky if certain guidelines are not followed. It is therefore essential to remain serious and responsible during all activities, for your own safety and that of others.
Before the itinerary begins, a briefing is held, usually in the morning or evening before, during which the guidelines to be followed are explained. If in doubt, participants are encouraged to ask for clarification without hesitation.
Mountain guides perform two fundamental roles: guiding people in the mountains and teaching mountaineering techniques. Historically, mountain guides were often shepherds with a deep knowledge of the area, who accompanied nobles and adventurers on their climbs. Over time, the role of the mountain guide has evolved: today, they not only lead people to the peaks, but are also dedicated to training and safety in the mountains.
Mountain guides can teach climbing techniques, how to practice ski mountaineering, assess avalanche risk slopes, analyze snow conditions, and manage self-rescue maneuvers. In essence, they are the leading experts in all aspects of mountaineering: from freeriding to glacier skiing, from rock climbing to ice climbing, to the most challenging excursions.
