Multipitch Climbing in the Dolomites with a Mountain Guide
There’s a massive difference between looking at the Dolomites from below and being right in the middle of a hundred-meter wall, with the void beneath your feet and nothing but perfect rock ahead. Multipitch climbing (long routes) is the purest way to experience these mountains: it’s not just a sport, it’s a journey to the summit.
With a Mountain Guide, you don't have to worry about finding pitons, setting up belay stations, or figuring out where the route goes. You focus on the climbing and the view; we take care of the rest, ensuring maximum safety even on the most exposed sections.
What level do you need for multipitch climbing?
The Dolomites offer routes for every ability, but the commitment is different from a via ferrata:
- Experience: It’s best if you’ve already tried climbing (even indoors) and know the basics of movement.
- Physical Condition: Good stamina is required, as routes can last from a few hours to a full day.
- Handling Heights: Since these are vertical and exposed walls, feeling comfortable with heights is essential.
We will choose the itinerary together based on your grade (from Grade IV for beginners to higher difficulties) to ensure a challenging yet manageable experience.
Why choose a Mountain Guide?
- Safety and Maneuvers: We manage the belaying, the stances, and any rappelling (abseiling), minimizing all risks.
- Route Finding: On a multipitch, finding the correct line is complex; your guide knows the itinerary and the key moves perfectly.
- Technical Gear: We provide all the necessary gear (ropes, quickdraws, carabiners) and check that your personal equipment is up to standard.
- Weather Assessment: We constantly monitor conditions to ensure a safe return before any weather changes.
Where are the best places to climb in the Dolomites?
The Dolomites are a labyrinth of walls, and every mountain group has its own character. Depending on your confidence on the rock, here is where we could go:
For your first steps (Beginners and Intermediates):
- 5 Torri: A true open-air museum, perfect for those approaching long routes with short approaches and excellent rock.
- Sella Towers: The ultimate classics. Fantastic sun exposure and accessible grades on historic lines.
- Lagazuoi: Wide and welcoming walls, ideal for enjoying the view without excessive stress.
- Tre Cime di Lavaredo (Normal routes): Even here, there are "human" itineraries that allow you to reach the summit of these world icons without being an extreme climber.
For those seeking a real challenge (Experts):
- Marmolada: The "Queen." Smooth, vertical silver walls that require technique and nerves of steel.
- Civetta: The "Kingdom of the Sixth Grade." Kilometers of wild and demanding walls.
- Tofane: Massive vertical gains and imposing walls that require great physical endurance.
- Sassolungo: A raw and majestic environment, perfect for those seeking pure adventure and isolation.
