Selvaggio Blu – Adventure Trekking in Sardinia with a Mountain Guide
Five days along Italy’s wildest coastline

Selvaggio Blu is much more than just a trek: it is an intense and spectacular traverse along the limestone cliffs of the Gulf of Orosei, where the mountains plunge into the turquoise sea. This technical and captivating itinerary features exposed passages, short climbing sections, rappels (abseiling), and panoramic via ferratas. You will be accompanied by a UIAGM-certified Mountain Guide to experience this adventure in total safety.

Key Information

  • Duration: 5 days (complete traverse)
  • Location: Baunei – Golgo Plateau – Pedra Longa – Cala Sisine
  • Physical Difficulty: High (up to 1,000 m of elevation gain per day)
  • Who it’s for: Fit hikers and lovers of wild, exposed environments who are ready to challenge themselves.

The Route

Created in the 1980s by mountaineers Mario Verin and Peppino Cicalò, Selvaggio Blu is considered one of the most demanding trekking routes in Europe. It stretches for over 50 km along ancient shepherd paths and charcoal burners' mule tracks, connecting Pedra Longa to Cala Sisine.

Along the way, you will discover some of Eastern Sardinia’s most iconic coves: Cala Goloritzé, Cala Mariolu, and Cala Biriola. Each day alternates between technical rock walking, equipped sections, and breathtaking views.

Why Choose Us?

  • Proven Experience: Over 15 years of experience guiding the Selvaggio Blu.
  • Safety First: Professional management of ropes, rappels, and exposed sections.
  • Selected Variations: The opportunity to trek the most scenic and complete sections.
  • Authenticity: Stops at the last active sheepfolds (ovili) on the Baunei coast.
  • Exclusive Path: The panoramic "Su Ledere ‘e Goloritzé" variant between Cala Goloritzé and Cala Mariolu.

An Experience That Leaves Its Mark

The Selvaggio Blu requires preparation, determination, and a spirit of adaptation. It is not a path for everyone, but for those who wish to experience nature in its most authentic and intense form. Here, you walk suspended between sky and sea, overcoming obstacles with a sense of accomplishment and sharing the effort in an environment that has remained untouched by time.

It is a journey through extraordinary landscapes, and a journey within yourself.
It is the truest Sardinia.
It is pure adventure.

Program

1

Day 1 – Arrival and Welcome

2

Day 2 – Santa Maria Navarrese → Cuile Us’Piggius

12 km | +1,000 m | 6-7 hours

The journey begins directly from the sea, walking along the coast to the majestic Pedra Longa. After crossing the Piana di Forrola, the trail gains elevation along a panoramic ledge suspended between the sky and the sea.

A short equipped section on the Iscala Sos Oggiatros via ferrata allows you to clear the final rocky step before reaching the Punta Giradili area, which offers an extraordinary view of the eastern coast.
Descent toward the plateau and arrival at Cuile Us’Piggius for the first night in a traditional shepherd’s hut (ovile) with a traditional dinner.

3

Day 3 – Cuile Us’Piggius → Punta Salinas

4 km | +1,000 m | 8-9 hours

A long stage immersed in the heart of the wild. You will cross the slopes of Monte Ginnirco, surrounded by twisted juniper trees and dizzying glimpses of the sea.

A short climbing section at Bacu Tenadili leads toward the cove of Portu Pedrosu, the perfect spot for a refreshing break. The journey then continues toward Porto Quau, ascending to Ovile Piras in the Punta Salinas area. Dinner and overnight stay at the shepherd's hut.

4

Day 4 – Punta Salinas → Cala Mariolu

10 km | +500 m | 7 hours

The signature stage of the Selvaggio Blu. We reach the famous Cala Goloritzé, renowned for its limestone pinnacle and turquoise waters.

From here, we tackle the “Su Ledere ‘e Goloritzé” via ferrata, opened by Marcello Cominetti in 2003: an airy itinerary along ledges and exposed sections that connects Goloritzé to the magnificent Cala Mariolu.

Arrival at the beach with time to enjoy one of the most iconic spots on the coast.

5

Day 5 – Cala Mariolu → Ololbizzi

7 km | +800 m | 7 hours

From the cove, the route ascends toward Serra del Lattone with technical and exposed sections. Two rappels (abseiling) lead to the Mudaloru area, followed by the atmospheric “Passo del Gatto” (Cat's Pass).

After crossing the Porta di Urele via airy passages and rocky descents, you reach the Grotta del Fico.

A final climb leads to the Ololbizzi plateau for dinner and an overnight stay.

6

Day 6 – Ololbizzi → Cala Sisine

8 km | +600 m | 7 hours

The final stage of the traverse. We follow an old mule track to Cuile Piddi and tackle the Sa Nurca passage, followed by a long rappel (abseil).

After a stop at Cala Biriala, the journey continues through the woods at the foot of the great limestone walls until reaching Cala Sisine.

Relax on the beach before returning to Santa Maria Navarrese by RIB boat for a farewell dinner and overnight stay.
