Marmolada ascent with mountain guide - The Queen of the Dolomites
Marmolada (3,343 m) is the highest mountain in the Dolomites and one of the most fascinating ascents in the Alps. Known as the Queen of the Dolomites, it offers a unique experience among glaciers, majestic walls and spectacular panoramas over all the Dolomites.
The climb to Marmolada is a great classic of Dolomite mountaineering, ideal for those who want to experience high mountains accompanied by a mountain guide, in an evocative environment rich in history.
What level do you need to climb Marmolada?
The climb to Marmolada takes place in a glacial environment and on mixed terrain, with sections on ice, snow and rock.
Good physical preparation and minimal mountain experience is required. Technically it's not very difficult, but conditions greatly affect difficulty: early in the season you walk mainly on snow, while towards the end of the season bare ice can make progression more challenging.
How does the Marmolada ascent work?
The main routes to reach Punta Penia are two:
- Normal route via the glacier
- Via the Cresta Ovest via ferrata
An excellent combination is to ascend via the Cresta Ovest ferrata and descend via the glacier, creating a beautiful panoramic traverse.
Overnight at Capanna Punta Penia
You can sleep at Capanna Punta Penia, the highest hut in the Dolomites. The hut is a small refuge without showers or running water. Staying here means reliving true mountaineering as it once was.
